Wright County to implement Web GIS - MAR 28, 2013

The Wright County Commission and Assessor signed an agreement with Intrinsic Corp. for the creation and operation of a shared internet-based geographic information system (GIS) for Wright County. The Assessor is to be congratulated for bringing together a community of users interested in realizing the benefits of a GIS. The system will feature a core set of data common to all users plus data unique to individual participants. The data, conceptually organized as layers, will include aerial imagery, a street centerline file, address points, land parcel boundaries, water features, voter districts, and political subdivision boundaries, all endowed with descriptive information that is accessible by users.

Each participating agency will share in the cost of creating and maintaining the core layers and will have the option of adding map features that are of unique interest to their agency. Initial participants include Fire Districts, School Districts, Water Districts, Municipalities, and various County Departments. The participants have executed a Memorandum of Understanding with the County Assessor that defines the terms for sharing the costs of data maintenance, hosting fees, and other operating costs.
